Shahnaz Hussain Henna Review

Hello gorgeous people!!! Last I blogged in June. 2013 that was....and today its 3rd Jan 2014 :P sorry for the looong gap!!! But today I'm gonna review something that I've been wanting to review since a long time. Its Shahnaz Hussain's henna precious herb mix. I'm sure all of you have heard this lady's name. Somehow, I don't like her hair :P it looks like a lion' mane to me!

The key ingredients are :  Amla (Emblica officinalis) 1.0%, Neem (Melia azadirachta) 1.50%, Shikakai (Acacia concinna) 2.0%, Babul Gond (Acacia arabica) 1.0%, Mehendi (Lawsonia alba) 93.0%, Base q.s. to make it 100%.

Okay coming to the review........

The packet is sparky green in colour and has Shahnaz Hussain's pic on it.

Many people say that henna can make your hair rough or it is not suitable for dry hair. But you need not worry because I'm gonna tell you a li'l secret (P.S. This is my secret behind using henna :P ). If you have dry,
rough and unmanageable hair, soak henna overnight in FULL FAT MILK.  If your hair is normal, you can soak it in warm water. Remember not to use very hot water.
Okay, now how I soak it......
  • If you want to colour your hair with henna it is better to soak it in iron pan or kadhai as we call it.
  • Take henna and milk/water as per your hair length and thickness.
  • Mix it until it is free of clumps.
  • Cover it with a lid and keep it overnight.
This is how the mixture will look like. The consistency should not be very runny. It shouldn't be very thick also. It would resemble a smooth paste. that way its easy to apply.

The mixture has military green colour and I love the smell of henna. Next day, put a towel on your shoulder or wear any old dress before you apply it because applying henna can be messy (it is messy actually). Cover whole of your hair taking sections and put it on a bun above your head. you can tie it with a clutch if you want. Take a plastic wrap and cover your head. Those of you who want colour can keep it till the muddy helmet above your head hardens, rest can keep it for around an hour or so. Wash it properly.
Another trick for those who want colour that lasts longer. The day you apply henna, just wash your hair with plain water. No Shampoo. When your hair is damp, apply generous amount of oil (your choice of oil but I apply amla or coconut oil) and shampoo and condition your hair the next day.
You won't believe the sheen in your hair. This is by far the best henna I have ever used. My hair looks so soft and smooth and the effect lasts for about 2-3 weeks. If you want healthy hair, apply henna once a month. It even helps in growing longer hair.
Many people add yogurt and egg for conditioning. Somehow I prefer henna without these as it already contains few herbs. Many apply oil prior to applying henna. I don't. You can always go ahead and try.
If you want black hair, add curry leaves juice to it. For blonde highlight, add turmeric; for red, you can you can add beetroot juice; for brown, add coffee powder.

Pros:
  • Makes hair soft and manageable
  • Adds a burgundy colour that I totally love
  • The effect lasts long
  • Really conditions the hair
  • The smell
  • Affordable
Cons:
  • The packaging. I feel it would have been better if it came in a tub. But who cares!

Price:  200g for Rs. 165.  100g for Rs. 90. (I got the 100g pack for Rs. 85....hehehe)

Will I buy it again?  YESSSSSS........I love this product! :) :)

I hope you'll like it when you use it. It's really worth a try. If it doesn't work, I'm sure it'll not damage anything because it is HERBAL.

I'll see you all very sooon I promise :) Till then, just let me know what you feel about this product :)
